 Two-day National Workshop on 

Conservation of Faunal Biodiversity and Environmental Monitoring

Kerala State Council for Science, Technology and Environment (KSCSTE), Thiruvanathapuram funded two-day National Workshop on Conservation of Faunal Biodiversity and Environmental Monitoring


  Technical Sessions:
    1. Dr. Balakrishnan Peroth, Scientist, Kerala Forest Research Institute, Peechi, Thrissur, Kerala



The first day of workshop was committed to studying different methods of sampling fauna, use of online platforms in documenting faunal diversity and Citizen Science. The session was led by Dr. Balakrishnan P., along with assistance from Mr. Nithin Divakar, Research Scholar on bats, Mr. Sreedhar, Research Scholar on rodents and Mr. Bibin, Project Fellow. The session flipped between theory sessions and field survey of the campus. The participants were intriduced to iNaturalist platform and the documented fauna were uploaded in iNat. 

    2. Dr. Sasidharan, Scientist, Institute of Forest Genetics and Tree Breeding, Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu


Dr. Sasidharan talked on the topic "Animal Diversity and its Conservation", introducing the participants to animal resources and importance of faunal biodiversity

    3. Mr. Balakrishnan Valappil, Member, Malabar Natural history Society (MNHS), Kozhikode



Mr. Balakrishnan Valappil is a moth enthusiast who is maintaining a website "Treenymph.org" with details on moth, life history and biology. The session introduced moths and mothing to the participants, which was followed by field study on moths, their larvae and habitat.
